“Gynaecology and embryology in Ancient, Medieval and Early-Modern Texts” Funchal, March 26th to 27th 2020
The Project “Gynecia: Rodericus a Castro Lusitanus and the ancient medical tradition about gynaecology and embryology” organizes, on March 26th and 27th 2020, at Colégio dos Jesuítas of Universidade da Madeira, the II International Gynecia Conference, dedicated to the theme “Gynaecology and embryology in Ancient, Medieval and Early-Modern Texts”. The primary aim of the conference is to address all the possible facets and complexities of this theme, within the context of Western Medicine. Scholars working in an area related to the theme of the project and interested in participating in the Conference are invited to send a proposal. Proposals on Ancient, Medieval and Early Modern Medicine and Philosophy are welcome, especially those dealing with – but not limited to – one of the following topics:
1) women and/or children’s health;
2) embryology, human and animal generation;
3) pregnancy, (in)fertility, contraception, abortion;
4) monsters and hermaphrodites;
5) materia medica in gynaecological treatises;
6) astrology in medical texts about pregnancy and childbirth;
7) translating texts about women’s and children’s diseases (challenges, relevance and difficulties);
8) rhetoric and medicine.
Presentation of Proposals
Those interested in presenting a scientific communication at the Conference should submit an abstract according to the guidelines indicated below by December 15th 2019. Its acceptance will be communicated by January 15th 2020. The presentations (up to 20 minutes) may be written in any of the official languages of the Conference: Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French and English. All the communication related to the Conference must be done through the following email: gyneciarcl@gmail.com.

Directions for sending abstracts
Abstracts must be submitted in https://tinyurl.com/2gynecia before December 15th 2019 with the following information: name; email address; institutional affiliation; bio-bibliographical note (300 words), title of the presentation; 500 words abstract, 5 keywords, thematic area to which the proposal is ascribed.
Registration
The standard registration fee is 65€; Master or PhD students: 40€; Attendees fee: 20€. The registration form will be available from January 15th 2020 and the deadline for registration payment is February 15th 2020. Relevant dates Submission of abstracts – until December 15th 2019. Confirmation of acceptance – until January 15th 2020. Registration – until February 15th 2020. Conference – March 26th, 27th 2020.
