Dr. José Sotero Gomes was Director of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Services of the Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça, Funchal, in several occasions. He has a long and solid career in gynaecology and obstetrics, both practising and teaching.

At present, he practices medicine in the field of gynaecology and obstetrics in Hospital da Luz, Funchal.
